Our Church and Our Community

New Covenant of Peace World Impact Ministries has been actively serving the East Side of Detroit for over 10 years. Although this church has less than 200 members it refuses to be small in any way.

In fulfillment of it’s Mission Statement, which states, “New Covenant of Peace World Impact Ministries has been ordained by God to be a place where God can be known, unconditional love experienced, community needs met and weary souls find rest,” the members and leaders of this church refuse to back down from any community challenge. Under the leadership of Bishop Tony and Pastor Valerie Russell New Covenant is determined to make a difference!

In 2000 New Covenant formed a separate 501(c)3 called Project SOAR (Strengthening Our Abilities and Resources) to help individuals discover their tremendous potential and help them live their dreams by connecting them with personal motivation and appropriate community services.

After one summer day of discovering children playing in dangerous vacant lots and houses the Church established Higher Expectations After School and Super Summer Programs. At its peak enrollment the program serviced 176 children between the ages of 8 and 17. The ministry continues to work with youth particularly young men between the ages of 8 and 18 through their Fellowship of Sons program. Additionally every summer children know that between 11:30 and 1:30 Monday through Friday is Lunch Time at New Covenant and they are all welcome to participate in the Summer Lunch Program.

Our commitment to Children is further expressed through The MAN (Maintaining A Neighborhood) Network. This program encourages men to take and active role in community safety by participating in mobile and foot patrols around areas where children learn and play.

Since its beginning this ministry has had a heart of compassion for those in need. Nothing we have done expresses this idea stronger than God’s Food Pantry. This ministry services 250 people per week with food boxes and clothing.

The tragic turn in our economy has caused the number of people coming for help to multiply. We have had several occasions where we ran out of food and sadly had to turn hungry people away. We have been blessed to purchase our food from the Gleaners Food Bank but we need more resources, more food and we are in immediate need of more refrigeration.

New Covenant of Peace is an active part of many organizations committed to improving the quality of life for all people including; The Detroit Crime Commission, Promise Neighborhoods, Wayne County Oral Health Coalition, Back on Track Education, Detroit Public Schools Faith Based Council, Crime Stoppers, Cease Fire, and The Detroit Community Clergy Coalition.

Bishop Russell also serves as CEO for Detroit Community Solutions, a 25 year old CDC providing housing for low to moderate income families, youth leadership development, and health equity. Pastor Valerie also serves as President of MAN Security, LLC a for profit company providing community based security solutions for businesses and events.

The MAN (Maintaining A Neighborhood) Network exists to promote community transformation through encouraging men to take a leadership role in community safety, community support, and community service. It is our belief that as men rise up in the community, respect for authority will be restored and many of our youth who are wayward will return to a path of success and prosperity.

At the heart of all of our activity is our commitment to making our community safe for our children. This is accomplished through mobile, foot and school patrols, community rallies, and an extensive leadership development/mentorship program for young men.
